  1. README.1ST - Important information about DataView v3.1
  2.  
  3. DataView v3.1 is not a major upgrade, however it does fix a problem with
  4. using DataView on certain CD-ROMs.
  5.  
  6. Upgrading to DataView 3.1 from DataView v3.0?  All you need to do is
  7. replace the old DATAVIEW.EXE with the new DATAVIEW.EXE and that should
  8. take care of everything.
  9.  
  10. If you are upgrading to DataView 3.1 from DataView 3.0ß make sure you
  11. read UPGRADE.DOC which contains very important upgrade information.
  12.  
  13. If you are upgrading to DataView 3.1 from DataView 2.2 make sure you
  14. read UPGRADE.DOC which explains the upgrade process.  Its very easy, but
  15. you must read it to install DataView 3.1 correctly.

  35.  ■ Added feature for DataView to write to ACTIVITY.xxx.
  36.  ■ Changed the virus scanning directory to be the same as the temporary
  37.    work directory.
  38.  ■ Fixed work directory string size.
  39.  ■ Fixed problem with the formatting of the archiver listing.
  40.  ■ Changed DataView so that it would not charge a user for more then
  41.    one download per viewing session.
  42.  ■ Reworked DataView's directory handling completly so that it does not
  43.    run into the problem of being limited by DOS' 127 character limit.

  45.    monitors.
  46.  ■ Added an ANSIVIEW feature to the [R]ead command so that ANSI files
  47.    could be viewed without any annoying color changes or prompts
  48.    cutting in.
  49.  ■ If you try to view a .GIF file, DataView will now report the
  50.    resolution, colors, and GIF version.  Special thanks to Jeff Bisson
  51.    for the idea and writing the code for this.

  57. DataView has been completly rewritten for version 3.0, and I think you
  58. will like the new features!  Below is a little information on what is
  59. new to version 3.0.

  61.  ■ Support for ALL nonstandard base addresses and IRQs.
  62.  ■ Improved speed and reliability.
  63.  ■ New archive formats have been added, including: ARC, PAK, SDN, and
  64.    self extracting EXE files compressed with PKZIP, ARJ, and LHA.
  65.  ■ Enhanced [R]ead feature with *text searching*!
  66.  ■ Enhanced [I]ntegrity scanning feature displaying CRC values.
  67.  ■ Enhanced [V]irus scan feature which displays the version of SCAN.EXE
  68.  ■ Enhanced [D]ownload feature which allows compressing up to 10 files
  69.    into an archive for download and an array of different compression
  70.    formats.  If the user only downloads one file they have the option
  71.    not to compress.  Users may even choose self extracting EXE archives
  72.    should they not have a copy of a decompression program around.
  73.  ■ Internal transfer protocols including Zmodem CRC 32 with Crash
  74.    Recovery.
  75.  ■ Viewing archives *within* archives.
  76.  ■ Graphical charts of individual file sizes.
  77.  ■ FileSpec function now supports wildcards.
  78.  ■ DESQview aware and compatible.
  79.  ■ Automatically swaps to conventional memory, EMS, or disk based on
  80.    what DataView needs at the time, there's nothing you have to configure
  81.    for this.
  82.  ■ New easy to use configuration program.
  83.  ■ Access to the download feature can be limited to by security level
  84.    using a pick list inside the DataView configuration program.
  85.  ■ In addition to internal protocols, DataView can be configured to use
  86.    any of the external protocols defined in MAKEWILD via a picklist.
